One of the most novel uses of 3D printing I have come across in sometime comes from London based 3D studio “Inition“. The team at the studio succeeded in producing a miniature chocolate brain accurately modelled on co-founder Andy Millns’ own grey matter.
The 3D model was created using information taken from an MRI scan Andy had previously and then printed using a 3D printer. A latex cast was then taken from the miniature brain and used as a mould for creating several different delicious looking brains.
Andy then proceeded to eat the brains and was said “I’ve been involved in some weird 3D projects over the years at Inition but eating my own chocolate brain was one of the most bizarre”. Fun little developments like this never fail to get me excited about the future of 3D printing and the endless possibilities it offers. In the meantime 3D printers are getting cheaper and more advanced everyday and I remain ever optimistic that one day they will become a standard piece of home/office equipment.
